Oh wow. I did a search on these and they're amazing! The diameter can get over 10 inches! Sadly, I live in zone 6 and this requires zone 9 or 10 at minimum temperatures.

To Mosholu, you can control the runners by surrounding your planted area with an HDPE rhizome barrier. It works amazingly well for the bamboo I currently grow and is supposed to be effective for giant bamboo too.
