the bigger box with smaller items is soft pastels (like crayons but waxy oil)...conte crayons are more like chalk (soft) pastels....the smaller box with bigger looking items is soft (chalk) pastels
no conte crayons are an especially hard pencil, made of an admixture of graphite and clay that can be varied for different degrees of hardness. It is usually made in black, red, or brown and is used as a drawing medium in any combination of these colours....while the chalk (soft) pastel is something similar to chalkboard chalk (like in grade school) that can be blended or smeared much easier then the Conte crayon.
