The listing, Strawberry Guava Seeds has ended.
The Strawberry guava is also known as the purple guava, Chinese guava. It is botanically classified as Psidium cattleianum and is a native tree of Brazil. The tree rapidly spreads by sending up new shoots and through natural propagation by seed, and is considered an invasive species in Hawaii. The fruits vary in size, shape and color, ranging from round or pear-shaped, smooth-skinned or rough and yellow, greenish white or red.
Appropriately named, the Strawberry guava has a sweet aromatic flavor that is reminiscent of strawberry, passionfruit and lime zest. It is approximately the size of a cherry and has a coarse but edible red skin that tastes of rose petals. The fleshy interior is creamy white with small round seeds that are usually swallowed whole.
Guavas provide an excellent source of vitamin C and are rich in pectin, a soluble fiber that may help lower blood cholesterol and promotes digestion. Eat fresh, puree, or cook down into jams or sauces.
Native to Brazil and also called purple guava and pineapple guava, strawberry guavas grow on a shrub or small tree with a smooth trunk that can reach fifteen feet in height. This fruit was first introduced to Hawaii in the early nineteenth century. In the United States, Hawaii, southern California and southern Florida are primary producers.
