Yep. I reside in southern California. Shade is the key. Planting marigold or using marigold petal tea helps keep any pest away.

Cucumbers love manure tea as well (compost tea). Give them a good soaking every week and you'll see the difference in how much one plant will produce. Your plants will live longer too.

Compost and manure teay are easy to brew and you don't have to keep a huge compost pile on your property. You can just buy a bag of good manure at Walmart to make manure/compost tea.

I use it for both flower and vegetables.

Here's a good video to help with compost tea - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCbeALuAYsg

Good info LosAngeles! Seven Dust...makes me shudder....more should use natural pesticides...there are so many recipes out there that work quite well...they say that seven dust washes off....not....that's why so many men in their 60's here in NC have developed prostate cancer...tests are revealing traces of seven dust...hmm go figure
