Personally I would go with the PS3, I have found that system wise it is the best. As for Xbox it better for online gaming, and that is about it. The 360 also has a higher risk of completely failing (red ringing). My boyfriend has both and in the time he has had them he has had to replace several of his 360's. But this is all my opinion. :) Good luck!

Thank you so much for the advice. I think I am definitely staying away from the XBox 360. My son will not be doing any online gaming. He's just too young for all of that.

Very cool auction! I'm 43 and just last year I was diagnosed with Asperger's. =) Sorry I can't help you about the Xbox 360, I'm strictly Nintendo! xD Video games are the only thing that really keep me from stressing and from stimming..helps me calm down =)

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. My son always retreats to the Wii or computer when he's feeling stressed out and overwhelmed. I am learning that there's really no such thing as too much gaming when Asperger's is involved. I was reading reviews of the Xbox 360 on Amazon and it got horrible reviews. I am seriously considering just upgrading the Wii since it has worked perfectly for the past 2 1/2 years.

Thanks!!! Yeah, there's 2 different slots to put the games in depending on which one you're playing and a switch that changes it from 8-bit to 16-bit. It really is a cool system and the games were really hard to find but my son just didn't like it. Fanned you too.

I think it's pretty cool too. That's the kind of games I played when i was a kid and the old Atari as well. I thought my 7 year old son would love it too but apparently its just not up to his standards as far as graphics are concerned. I really want someone to win it who will play it and love it. Thanks for checking it out, fanned you too.

i would recommend going for the 360 if you on a Listia credit budget as they are "cheaper" than the PS3 system. or you can try going for a PS2, an older console in the Playstation Series by Sony which does not really do as much online gaming as the PS3. Microsoft created the Xbox (not in production anymore, and the Xbox 360 (certain models are not in production anymore, the most newest is the Xbox 360 slim, but all xbox 360 models can play any xbox 360 games and specific xbox games. Sony created the PS1 (very old and not in production, PS2 (can play ps2 and ps1 games still in production) and the newest PS3 (older models are not in production and can play PS2 games which is called "backwards compatibility" the newest ps3 model is the PS3 slim.) Good luck.

My 9 year old has Asperger's/high-functioning Autism (*they* haven't quite finished the diagnosis yet, argh). He LOVES the 360 for some of the games and the fact that we watch Netflix on it easily. I also have parental controls set up on it so he can't pull up a "bad" movie or play a "teen" rated game without my permission. He loves all the Halo games, but plays them sparingly. We also have a PS2 which he plays lots of his other favorites, mostly Star Wars games. We haven't invested in a PS3 yet, but I don't like that he wouldn't be able to play his favorite PS2 games on it. We've had so much fun with the 360 and I'm planning on getting a Kinect at some point so he can do some motion games without worrying whether he'll have an "autistic fit" and throw the controller at the screen or drop it or any number of things that could happen with the Wii or the PS3 "moving" games. He also developed epilepsy about two years ago (which apparently "follows" aspergers/autism quite often) so he doesn't play video games very often at all since I'm concerned about the flashing lights or fast activity on the screen triggering a seizure. He loves them though, so we work out a few hours here and there during the week when he can play. :)

LOL Yes it censors everything. Thank you for sharing your story with me. I haven't met any other parents with kids with AS. My son is turning 8 in a few weeks and he was also diagnosed with ADHD the inattention kind, sever anxiety disorder, delayed coordination disorder (has the fine motor skills of a 2 year old), then there's some physical stuff going on and I swear to God I am at my ropes end!!! Web took him to the best place in Atlanta for diagnosis and they are great. The school just put him in Special Ed and I can't bring myself to tell him that he's got problems and why his class has changed. He is so angry he stabs his hands with pencils when he can't do his work right on the first try and now it's like he's given up all together. He has autistic fits all the time too. Sorry to unload on you but you're the first person to share anything with me. I don't know how to help him!!!

Game Consoles:
Wii: You already have one and could save to wait for the 2nd/New Wii coming out.
Pros; Your son is already familiar with it, you already have a library of games.
You could also run/install HomeBrew (http://www.wiihacks.com/forum.php).
Just get a 2gb Sandisk SD card and follow instructions for your model ver #.#.
This allows you to play thousands of emulated games or full Wii games.
Cons; You don't enjoy the controllers, Poor Graphics, Media lacking(Not after Homebrew).

PS3: If you have HDTV it will also serve as a blue-ray player for HD movies.
Pros; Blu-Ray, Semi-HD Games(Most games run lower HD then 360), Motion Controllers.
Cons; PS2 Games run Low-Quality, Poor Online Support, Lack of Exclusive Games only for Xbox(Halo, Gears, etc), Uncomfortable Controllers, Costly, Breaks as often as 360.

Xbox 360: #1 most used system Online with constant latest support & protection.
Pros; Ergonomically correct controllers, Kinect, Xbox Live, Media Player(mp4,mkv,avi,mp3,etc), Huge library of games(Older titles cheap as $5-10).
Cons; RROD on older models(can be fixed), $60/yr for Xbox Live, No Blu-Ray.

I'm not going to tell you what to get, because I'm biased in favor of Sony's consoles.

But, I can give you factual information on PS3's and clear up some of your confusion as far as how they play games.

Sony PS1 - Plays audio cds and PS1 games. The PS1 games were sold in jewel cases, and the disc is based on CDs.

Sony PS2 - Plays audio cds, PS1 games, DVD movies and PS2 games. The PS2 games were sold in DVD cases, and the disc is based on DVD discs.

Sony PS3 - Plays audio cds, PS1 games, DVD movies, PS3 games, BluRay movies. The PS3 games are based on BluRay discs. Certain models (now discontinued) had the hardware which allowed them to play PS2 games. The PS3 also supports playing digital media files, such as MP3 music, AVI movies, JPEG pictures, etc, and supports USB drives to view such music/pictures/video and wireless or wired networking to your PC to locally stream that content through your PS3.

He has a Wii and loves it, so i am not sure where the desire to have the XBox is coming in at. He has Asperger's Syndrome and people with AS tend to find something they want and obsess over it. He's having severe anxiety thinking Santa may not have enough money to bring him one this year. We were laying the ground work because we knew we can't afford it. I am like the worst mom in the world for not being able to get my poor disabled baby what he wants this yer. I usually save all year long but since I haven't worked this year and my husband barely gets 4 days a week at works (cut backs) and we have 2 in college then Jack with all of his mental and physical issues and a 2 year old baby girl Santa is going to have to be bought of Listia. I have auctioned off every piece of real gold and diamond jewelry I had, including my engagement ring just to try to save up enough credits. Its so frustrating....anyway, thanks for all of your help and advice, I really appreciate it.

As for the debate it is simple when cost comes into effect.
Basic 4GB Xbox 360 $199.99
Basic 160GB PS3 $249.99

I have both and enjoy both each console has games that will only come out for it. I say start with the PS3 you will have a 3-d blu ray player that plays games then get the 360 later on.

Don't know if I want the Wii U that's coming out..probably going to be uber expensive. :p Right now I currently own almost all the Gameboy systems (missing the Pocket version), got my Wii, my Gamecube, the original NES system, the DS Lite, and my 3DS. if i was you i would try to find a deal for a ps3 and an xbox. they are both amazing. it depends on what games you like. some games like halo are only on xbox. some games like little big planet are only on ps3. me and some friends modded a system to play ps1, ps2, ps3, bluray, xbox, and xbox 360. we are still workin out some kinks, but other than that, i think its perfect. the only thing we dont know is if it will crash ( like RROD or YLOD)

I personally have a ps3, and yes we did get hacked a few months ago, but it did not affect me. Now one of the things they did as a courtesy for the long wait to get back online was give us 2 free games, I chose Infamous, and Little Big Planet for PS3 and they also allowed you to pick 2 games for the PSP as well. They also gave you a month subscription to Playstation Plus which is online and lets you get stuff on the playstation network significantly cheaper, and usually free games as well. I have not played the xbox 360, but if I had to choose, I'd have to choose the ps3. I thoroughly enjoy it. PS3 however is not backwards compatable with the ps1 or ps2. Hope this helps.

It does help and thank you so much for commenting. The whole reason my son wanted an XBOX was because he wants Little Big Planet. After researching it I found that it is only for the Play Station. I am still debating which one to get him if any. They are both so expensive, especially when you have 2 kids in college, 1 with Asperger's and constant doctor visits and a 2 year old baby girl. Money is so tight.

i say xbox because of the ps network getting hacked, yes it only happend one time, but it still happened, and xbox has never been hacked. and i sampled the playstation move compared to the kinect, and the kinect runs smoother. not to mention with ps3 you need to buy the light up stick to even play it. $$$, and yes i own a xbox 360S and love it to death.
playstation is over priced and they are never going to come down.
u at least can get a nice xbox with 4gig or 250gig hard drive for
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/Xbox360/Consoles/Standard/Home

the 4gig is good if you dont have a lot of downloaded content or dont plan on it. but it does get addicting with all of the songs for rockband, arcade games "under1gig" to play on live, and the games on demand "6gig+no disc required"

and the playstation acception is the Bluray player, that is cool, but still.

http://us.playstation.com/ps3/systems/?SR=nav:playstation:playstation3:systems:ps&ref=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.sony.com%252Findex.php

thats just my opinion,
now, about the auction, did u get this from swagbucks? i saw it on there. looks sweet.

i got a 360 and a ps3 i play my 360 more cuz the games i have are a hell-of-alot funner and the controls respond better the ps3 is nothing but a box for graphix THATS IT...if your lookin for graphix go with the ps3...BUT, im tell'n you now you'll be sorry especialy if your getting it for a 7 year old...the navigations abit confussing at first it gets the same flashing lights as x-box when stuff is wrong the customer service SUCKS...and online is horrible (THATS WHY THE ONLINE IS FREE)....the 360 has gotten better at manufacturing their systems, so they dont get the RED RING OF DEATH as much ( the only reason the got RRD was becuase they where rushing to get there system out at the same time as ps3 and made a few boo boo's) that is fixed now.....you do how ever get a better selection of games on the 360 and the controller responds SO MUCH BETTER (i know cuz i have a few of the same games on both systems and 360 plays so much better....if you have netflix you can play it on both systems, HOWEVER ps3 sucks at streaming movies...NEVER HAD ONE PROBLEM WITH STREAMING MOVIES ON MY 360.....NEVER......if you play online you get booted out of a game so easily for bad conection on the ps3....quess what,....NOT ON THE 360 cuz thier servers are so much better....all-in-all go with the 360, its better, faster, stronger, and more reliable....i've had mine for 4 years not one problem....wish i could say the same for my ps3......HOPE THIS HELPS

if you get the first ps3 like the 40 and 80 gigs they are backwards compatible they will play ps1 and ps2 games but if you get the newer ones no there not you can still buy alot of ps1 and ps2 games on the psn store and down load and play them tho

See this auction is going so well ... My opinion is only on the PS3 because we do not nor will we own the XBox360 yes I have heard and know several ppl who have had the red ring problem on the XBox our PS3 has been going strong for almost 3 yrs.. I love streaming movies to the TV and I can watch Blu Rays without having to go out and buy yet another player so it's good for less clutter.. of course we also have the WII and my kids alternate between the 2 also depending on which model you get of the PS3 you can play the cheaper PS1 and PS2 games. Hope I didn't echo anyone who is already posted.. GL and best wishes to you and your family.

Really???? Is it working right? No RROD or whatever the PS3 gets lol? All of the wonderful and very thoughtful comments left for me on the debate between the XBox and PS3 have left me confused to say the least. I think I am going to have to go with a PS3 if I can find one on here that is and that is just like it came out of the box from the store. My son want Little Big Planet and its only on PS3. Thanks so much for checking out mine and I am checking out yours right now.
