Description

The listing, Red Weeping Willow Bottlebrush Tree! has ended.

Talk about a beautiful tree. My tree is over 20 years old, huge, and certainly the focal point of anyone's yard. Each seed pod actually contains HUNDREDS of seeds, so you have the opportunity here to plat yourself a Willow Bottle Brush Forest with these pods! Huge 6" Red blooms that attract butterflies and hummingbirds regularly! Grows like a tree out of a Dr. Seuss book! Very prolific here in West Coast Central Florida! Winner receives 10+ pods.

Some info from the County Extension office on Red Willow Bottlebrush:

The “bottlebrush” belongs to the genus Callistemon, which means “beautiful stamens”. There is no doubt that it is a perfect description of the bright red flower spikes. This small tree is native to Australia and belongs to the Myrtle family which includes Eucalyptus, guava, Surinam-cherry, Rose-apple and Myrtle. Hummingbirds frequently visit their flowers. The weeping bottlebrush has become a very popular garden specimen in Florida, California and Hawaii. The lemon bottlebrush, with leaves that have a citrus scent when crushed, is also used extensively in Florida, more commonly in north Florida than in the southern part of in the State. The showy bottlebrush is more appreciated because of the longer flower spikes that can be up to six inches in length and have gold tips on the stamens.

Thanks and best of luck!

Could you make two listings of this item? I would like to have one, but I can also see why 'Celticrosie' would like one.

I have to double check and make sure I have plenty of viable pods and if so I'll be listing another in the future.

Is this purely a southern plant or will it grow in colder climates, like zone 7, which is where I live in northeast TN. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and these grew everywhere! I would so like to have some in my yard, if they will grow here. Thanks!

From what I've read on the county extension services it is zoned for warmer climates, but if I had to give it my honest good guess, I would say if you established the plant for a season or two in a container to allow the roots to fill out, and planted one year after the last frost, I would think they'd do fine. My tree has endured several days worth of teens and 20's years ago, as well as doing just fine every winter regardless of how long and consecutive the cold days are stringed together. Just my 2 cents. Best of luck!

Ah, Bobbie, guess we northern Southerners just can't get this one. Sounds interesting, but predictions are for a really cold winter here in God's Country (known to you as Arkansas!) this year. And we do get really cold ones at times, with lots of sleet and ice.....even some snow!
