AUTHENTIC ROMAN COIN
This is a beautiful follis minted to commemorate the founding of Constantinople. The victory on a prow type alludes to the naval victory of Crispus and his subsequent capture of Byzantium (soon to be re-named Constantinople). It was struck between 336 - 337 AD at the mint in Thessalonica.
The obverse of the coin has the image of the laureate, helmeted bust of Constantinople left in imperial mantle, sceptre over left shoulder. The legend is CONSTAN-TINOPOLIS
The reverse shows Victory standing on prow, head left, sceptre in right hand, left hand on shield
