The listing, El Pilon - A Mortar and Pestle Handmade In The Dominican Republic has ended.

This was made in the Dominican Republic of solid carved wood. Used only a handful of times, this is in excellent condition. It is a heavy duty ample sized piece. This looks great stored on the counter with all of it's carvings.

Its big, I'll measure it for you.... The top diameter, is just shy of 6 inches, I'd put the depth of the well for grinding at about 4". The overall height of the piece falls a touch taller than 7 inches. It is very nice. I will post these measurements above for all to see. Thank you for asking.

Can you determine the kind of wood it's made out of?

I don't know and I'm really not sure how I could find it out. I wish I could answer your question. It's a heavy and dense wood, not a lightweight one.
