This is a dark brown lamp for a desk. It needs the kind of lamp shade that slides on and then there is a brown piece on the lamp that screws over it to keep it in place.

Ok I hope I can explain this correctly. The wire part of the lamp shade slides down over the top of the lamp. Then there is a plastic nut like that goes over that, that screws on to keep the shade from moving or falling off. I hope that can help you. I've added another picture, a close up, of the top of the lamp. I hope this has helped.
