The listing, Light the Candle! Bang the Drum!: A Book of Holidays from Around the World has ended.

A colorful and fun book by: Ann Morris, Pictures by: Peter Linenthal. It is in great, like-new condition.

I have taken pictures of "Halloween" - Saturday, October 31, 2015, "Day of the Dead" - October 31, 2015 - Monday, November 2, 2015 and "Thanksgiving" - Thursday, November 26, 2015.

Light the candles! Ring the bells! Dance and sing! Cultural and religious holidays are very important to children, marking festive occasions both at home and at school. This bright nonfiction picture book serves as the perfect introduction for the very young to celebrations around the world. Many of the holidays like Thanksgiving and Halloween are familiar to American children. Others, such as St. Lucia's Day and Diwali, may be new to them. Each of the twenty-four holidays is illustrated with cut-paper pictures full to bursting with brilliant colors and bold shapes. Along with simple descriptions, they convey the mood, symbols, and incredible diversity of the festivities. Detailed notes at the end of the book tell more about each holiday (Last Picture).

Kindergarten-Grade 2?A look at 24 different holidays around the world. Each page contains the name of a celebration or observance, a simply written paragraph describing it, and an illustration showing people participating in it. Two pages of notes give more specific details. The basic text gives too little information for most children. For example, readers unfamiliar with Loy Krathong, Diwali, or Eid al-Fitr won't learn when or where they are celebrated unless they turn to concluding notes, which are written on a higher reading level and are in much smaller print. Colorful, simply shaped cut-paper pictures show people engaged in the celebrations. These spirited and cheerful illustrations are the book's strength, but the presentation is too confusing for the intended audience.

Comes from a clean, pet-free, smoke-free home!
