An interesting STAR WARS tidbit, in an interview, George Lucas said the original idea for the Millennium Falcon was originally to be the Blockade Runner, but because it looked a lot like the Eagle space ships on Space:1999, Lucas had his designers create a completely different style ship. That's why the Falcon is round instead of elongated. But both still have birds as their code names!
