Description

The listing, Really Sharp, Full LIBERTY, Copper-Nickel, V2, 1863 Indian Head Cent has ended.

This auction is for a Sharp, Full Liberty Copper-Nickel 1863 Indian Head Cent From The Civil War Era. This is the Second Variety of Three for this coin and was only minted for 5 years.
The scans above are of the actual coin that you will receive, and are provided for you to determine the condition and/or grade of it.
As usual, I will start this auction off at 499 credits to allow for you, the bidders, to set the price.
I never clean or alter coins in any way, and do my best to allow you to see every detail and/or every blemish that the coins I list have, so that you can make an informed and confident bid.
I am no longer accepting GIN offers for my auctions, everyone now gets a shot at bidding.
Be sure to check out all of my other auctions that always run on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday.
The winner will receive this via FREE SHIPPING W/Tracking.
Remember that all Listia rules apply.

Most of you know that I have been adding a rider to all of my auctions, stating that the post office is no longer reliable enough to get anything delivered in a timely manner and I wish that this was not necessary.
The post office has been off and on again when it comes to shipping lately and First Class Shipping has been making it to its destination within 1 week, and then the next few are not being scanned for days for some reason. I just want you to know beforehand that this will be sent the next available day after auction end, but I have no control over it after I do drop it off.
Thank you for your interest in my auctions and stopping by to view them.

My apologies for asking but what does a copper nickel V2 1863 Indian head mean, I guess the copper nickel part is confusing. How does a copper nickel become a penny, and V2 is Variety 2 correct? I am sure I'll learn something here and that's great since I'm a new collector. Thank you.

in the beginning, large cents were mainly copper which eventually changed to add nickel to them. the first years of the Indian Head pennies (1859 - 1864) used the copper-nickel but the civil war ended that by using it up, which then started the Bronze Indian Head penny in 1864.
all 1859 Indian head pennies are a variety 1 and they changed to add a shield with the wreath on the reverse which was the variety 2.
hope that helps to explain the copper-nickel part and the V2.

no problem. If you are interested in collecting coins seriously, you would do yourself a giant favor by purchasing the "Official Red Book" guide book of U.S. coins. every bit of info that I gave to you (here and the dime), came directly from that book.
