Un seul type de pièce, la pièce de un cent, a été frappé pour le dollar Prince-Édouard, en 1871. PEI entrée dans la Confédération deux ans plus tard.

Les deux côtés de la médaille ont été conçus par Leonard Charles Wyon. L'avers avait la reine Victoria, avec l'inscription «Queen Victoria» et la date. L'inverse a été spécialement conçu pour le gouvernement de la province. Il avait le sceau du-colonie grand chêne, sympolising Angleterre, abritant trois plus jeunes, qui symbolisait trois comtés de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Ci-dessous le sceau a été localisé l'expression latine "PARVA SUB INGENTI", traduit par "Le petit sous le grand". Autour du joint et la phrase a été écrite "PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND", et la dénomination, "ONE CENT".

La pièce a été le produit au Heaton Mint, en raison de la Monnaie de Londres d'avoir à frapper des monnaies nationales. Toutefois, le "H" marque d'atelier est manquant. La pièce est composée de 95% de Cu. 4% de Sn et 1% de Zn. Il a un poids de 5,67 g et un diamètre de 25,40 mm. Il a un bord brut.

Deux millions de pièces de un cent ont été frappées. Le gouvernement de l'Île serait éprouver des difficultés à placer les pièces en circulation-10 ans ont été nécessaire pour le gouvernement de se débarrasser d'eux. Le dernier des pièces ont été vendues à un rabais de 10 pour cent.

Only one type of coin, the one-cent piece, was struck for the Prince Edward Island dollar, in 1871. PEI entered Confederation two years later.

Both sides of the coin were designed by Leonard Charles Wyon. The obverse had Queen Victoria, with inscription "VICTORIA QUEEN" and the date. The reverse was specially made for the PEI government. It had the seal of the colony—a large oak tree, sympolising England, sheltering three younger ones, which symbolised Prince Edward Island's three counties. Below the seal was located the Latin phrase "PARVA SUB INGENTI", translated as "The small beneath the great". Around the seal and phrase was written "PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND", and the denomination, "ONE CENT".

The coin was the produced at the Heaton Mint, due to the London Mint having to strike domestic coins. However, the "H" mint mark is missing. The coin is composed of 95% Cu. 4% Sn, and 1% Zn. It has a weight of 5.67 grams and a diameter of 25.40 mm. It has a plain edge.

Two million one-cent pieces were minted. PEI's government would experience difficulties in placing the coins in circulation—10 years were needed for the government to get rid of them. The last of the coins were sold at a 10 percent discount.
