Questions & Comments
I do know that this variation was donated to the Smithsonian Museum by a collector, so I would guess this is one of the more highly collectible ones for that reason. All just guesses though...one thing is for sure, I am watching and hopefully bidding in the end :)
I have no idea Hun, it's really a matter of what someone is willing to pay really... online searching is one way to get a feel of things though. *hope that helps :-)
Just in looking online Gaillong, it seems this was struck in both silver and bronze. I assume, judging by the color, that this is bronze right? Also, I saw the listings on e-bay as well. They had one for $400 and one for the price you mentioned, around $900. Pretty wide discrepancy, lol. I know that the silver ones are very rare, but I couldn't find anything as to the rarity of the bronze one.
OK.. you found one for $400.00 as well, ummm's... it does'nt hurt so bad now *snickers* i looked ad the "Metallic art website" and found several veriations of this to but they did not picture this exact coin which i thought was strange as they manafactured it. possibly a short or discontinued run?.. & yes, i would say it's bronze (being gold would be too much to take LOL :-p)
Sorry for double posting, but there doesn't happen to be a number on the rim anywhere does there Gaillong? Thanks, that'll be the last time I bug ya :)
Add on info! you CAN open the case pretty easy, i did and looked at the rim as there was a question from tgreeson, it has embossed ridges with no printing :-)
So is NatureLovinPagan saying this IS NOT Bronze? I am a little confused by her last post. I guess this could be brass maybe? I have no clue, and it seems like at least she was sure of what she was talking about. But I agree with you Gaillong, it sure did look like one of those coins offered on Ebay, the only issue is that it isn't numbered. It would seem a high value collectible like the ones listed on Ebay, would be numbered. Oh well, it is FREE, Right? :) Thanks for offering it up!!
It's bronze & exactly the same coin offered elsewhere... even the marked case with "metallic art co ny" is the same, i put it under a glass to check... i braze bronze & brass art thingies sometimes, brass is a more gold color :-)
