Questions & Comments
Will be watching. Also, very interested to know what kind of stone either way. As well as how old it is. I really love the style and Druidic spirals.
I am not a gemologist, but I have been involved with vintage and antique jewelry for most of my life. I have asked other dealers if they could verify the type of stone and they cannot provide an exact answer. I will try 1 more in the morning as the antique shops are open on Saturdays and Sundays only. I can pass on what knowledge I have and what the comments of other dealers were: 1. Diamonds are almost always (unless requested otherwise by a customer) set in white gold or platinum if the buyer does not want to wear "yellow" gold. 2. Brilliant stones, before Cubic Zirconia was made available on the market (late 70's or early 80's) were usually Colorless Zircon a beautiful natural stone with ALOT of brillliance. These stones suffer from a strange misconception that they are synthetic or "man-made" because the clear and light blue stones are frequently, if not usually, treated to alter them to have "color". Colorless Zircons have been assumed to be real diamonds in many heirloom pieces. The clear stones are used often as smaller stones around a larger one in ring settings, as zircon is beautiful and much cheaper than using small accent diamonds; Also very pretty are crystal stones in old pieces. Actually crystal is just a fancy word for "cut glass" because that's exactly what it is, professionally cut (just as a gem would be) clear glass! I hope this information is useful to everyone now and in the future! I'm sorry to post it so late, there was a death in the immediate family on Syunday and I'm just now catching up on corresondances. I mailed 6 packages yesterdat\y, i was so behind! Thank you to everyone for your interest and comments on the auction pages!! I appreciate every one!
I never said it was cubic zirconia, I'm pretty sure it's too old to be. It isn't cloudy at all and might look that way because I use my phone to take my pictures!
