This is for pastry's. So you can pick up the pastry with out smashing it. That would be my guess. :) any way I am bidding on it for that reason lol

I never thought to look on eBay. My oldest daughter told me she got them at a thrift store in Washington state. Paid $1 for them. Guess she got a good deal!

I believe that they are serving tongs like to serve salad or like pick up something like a slice of roast beef or turkey that has been laid out on a serving tray. I might be bidding they could be very useful. Watching :)

My grandmother has looked and she said they are definitely vintage serving tongs but they are silver plated not sterling silver. We found some on sale online in several places and the price range was between $28 and $36 but none of those were tarnished. The tarnished ones were between $5 to $8 but since they could be cleaned once they were they would fall into that $28 to $36 category. My grandmother said they are vintage but not antique. Do a web search for vintage flat head serving tongs and you can verify this info. All that being said I still think they are cool looking and would serve a purpose in my kitchen so I'll still be watching and bidding :)

My grandmother says that she doesn't believe that they were made to serve a particular food. They were just the tongs you pulled out anytime you wanted to grip something rather than scoop like you would use a spoon for. She also said that there are serving spoons that match it. She thinks these might Be part of a collection EPNS Sheffield England
