This item is silver tone, has a little faux snap together lock on the front and fuax hinges on the back! I thought this charm opened, and I tried for an hour to open it before I realized that it didn't open!! lol that's how real the little hinges and clip closure looks.

There Is absolutely no tarnish or discoloration. It is made to look antiqued, glazed, or an antique patina to it, people call it many different things. It's super cute though :))
