Description

The listing, Thich Nhat Hanh Wall Plaque or Hanging ● "Kiss The Earth With Your Feet…" ● “Gold Edged" ● GC has ended.

English portion on the bottom and what I believe is Chinese on the top.

This could be framed, we always just used to use push pins around it to put it onto our bulletin board where we could see it at work each day.

If you frame hopefully let those nice gold edges show thru framing.

Thick cardboard material, the gold edging goes fully over the sides, top & bottom edges.

The back has little silver flecks that look like stars reflecting!

Back is a mellow yellow cardboard color — I can’t tell if that is age or as it was made, but I think it is intentional (isn't that an appropriate word for this genre?).

About 4 1/4” wide, 5 3/8” tall.

Front definitely has an indentation toward the left corner, a slight indentation middle right.
Some smudge or dirt left middle, left lower, right bottom corner.
A bit of smudge or scruff top right corner.

Do look at the pics as the camera may pick up something my eyes do not & vice versa -- I try to list defects I see. To me, not so much defects as graceful aging & having actually used this piece, but you may think differently.

Like age spots that make you look again -- & the message read again -- it worked for me. It has endured & is still sending its message!

Thich Nhat Hanh is a well known author, such as “Peace is Every Step”, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk among other things.

The phrase has also been attributed to him as “Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.”

This particular phrase I believe is from a much longer walking meditation:

… Walk and touch peace every moment.
Walk and touch happiness every moment.
Each step brings a fresh breeze.
Each step makes a flower bloom under our feet.
Kiss the Earth with your feet.
Print on Earth your love and happiness. ….

Please look at the pictures & make sure this will fit & work with your project or intended use before you place your bid; sold as-is.

The direct but simple words of Thich Nhat Hanh helps "ground" me -- among others like Alan Watts (perhaps not so simple from him).

Another easy author to read, maybe not so easy to grasp the second or third layers down -- I have kept many of his sayings! :)

Yes..one of my favorites. I remember reading "The Prophet" in High School...my English teacher thought it was 'very cool'. :)

You don't see that book floating around often these days in used outlets -- but yep -- it was very abundant and popular long and many moons ago. I probably have a copy some where although we have been purging tons of old books for several years.

True...when i go to used book stores i'm usually looking for Richard Brautigan...tho i've pretty much given up on the out of print books that i've not read. I'm obsessed with findin "Please plant this book". Hehe, that would be the score of my life!! It's not going to happen; I'm pretty sure about that. :o)

We used to do a lot of garage sales for many years -- the shelves of books we collected behold the fact. At garage sales a quarter or two will buy you many treasures. But we also have a very large warehouse used bookstore "in town" -- and with so many people coming and then leaving from this Island -- you never know what may show up on those shelves. It would be interesting to stumble on "Please Plant..." but I suspect the bookstore owners would detect it before shelving it and it would never actually make it to the stacks.

Yes, I think so! Luckily his family (I believe) put up an online Brautigan site...You can read many of his works. It can never fulfill the pure joy and excitement of holding his book in your hands, but you can read most of his writings (virtual is better than nothing)! I really wonder how many people did plant that book?! Do you remember that he handed the book out free in the park...it consisted of 8 seed packets, with a poem on each. one was " The only hope we have is our
children and the seeds we give them
and the gardens we plant together.
"Lettuce" from Please Plant This Book (1968) All of the poems are so insightful and beautiful! I just 'googled' it and Abebooks sells it for thousands of dollars ~ How ironic! :o) =

Sure SEEMS like I have seen that book -- but maybe I only imagine?? Still, I'm going to look to see if we actually have it here. Seems I remember looking at those seed holders and wondering what possessed anyone to go to all that trouble. Too bad we don't have instant replay memories with date and time stamps to rewind to, but then it makes us wonder (did I really, if so where did I see it, did I have it?)... Of course at my age, faulty memory happens all the time :) -- gives me and my similarly aged cousin something to compare.
