The listing, Ancient Roman Coin - THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE EVER - Licinius I AE Follis c. 313-315AD has ended.
This is a very special CHRISTIAN coin from the early Roman Empire. I want this to go to a Christian who will appreciate its historical value, and not just the intrinsicity of the almighty dollar. And yes, it's valuable.
Licinius' full name: variations as Iovius Licinius or Licinianus Licinius appear on inscriptions.
Licinius I (Latin: Gaius Valerius Licinianus Licinius Augustus c. 263 – 325), was Roman Emperor from 308 to 324. Co-author of the Edict of Milan that granted official toleration to Christians in the Roman Empire, for the majority of his reign he was the rival of Constantine I. He was finally defeated at the Battle of Adrianople, before being executed on the orders of Constantine I. In other words, he was THE man, other than Jesus Christ, to allow Christians to live peacefully and prosper.
the coin is bronze. AE Follis
The term "AE" describes the metal the coin was struck from (AE in this case being bronze with a 4% silver wash, although some AE coins lose the silver wash over the centuries), and "Follis" is the denomination of the coin. The "Follis" was first instituted by the Emperor Diocletian(284-304AD). AR before the denomination would indicate Silver, whereas AU would indicate Gold.
