This 1942-P is a Jefferson Silver (35%) War Nickel and are collectible. This is the first time the mint mark P (Philadelphia) was used! The Jefferson Silver War Nickels, 1942-1945 were only minted at three of the mints: P - Philadelphia; D-Denver and S-San Francisco. The mint mark is rather large and appears in the top center of the coin above Monticello, the home of Jefferson on the back. There will be other nickels which, for example, a 1942-D Jefferson Nickel, in order for this to a war nickel, the mint mark MUST appear top center of back side of coin above Monticello, if it is not there, but the mint mark appears on the bottom right side of Monticello, then the coin is NOT a Jefferson Silver War Nickel. Thanks, sorry I did not mean to write an anthology, but this is for people who may not know the difference, Good luck with auction!! Kindest regards, jcmath1 Jim
