Description

The listing, MUST SEE ** 1837 SILVER CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLAR ** Read Full Description has ended.

Decided to celebrate the fact that the Holidays are over and soon the Post Office should get back to normal.
We are also going to find out who the REAL Coin Collectors are here on Listia.
This is easily now, the most expensive coin listed here by me, and I am still going to let the bidders decide what it is worth.
This auction is for an 1837 SILVER CAPPED BUST HALF DOLLAR.
This coin actually shows all of the features that warrant an ALMOST UNCIRCULATED grading, but the coin itself, mainly with the RIM DINGS seen on the reverse, does not.
This coin needs to be sent in for grading and may come back as AU or Higher with Details because of the rim dings, or it could come back with an EF grade.
I need for you to look at the scans provided and make a decision for yourself as to what the grade really is.
The scans above are of the actual item that you will receive, and are provided for you to determine the condition and/or grade of it.
If you wish to ask about a GIN, please do so through the Listia messaging and not here in the comments section. But, know this, you will get this cheaper by bidding.
The winner will receive this via FREE SHIPPING W/Tracking.
I am not sure how well the Post Office will be doing by now, but this will go out Priority Mail which will help it to get delivered sooner and with much better odds of making it to you.

---> I will not put up with rude, or any other type of comment, that is not constructive. That will get you blocked from this auction and all others of mine.<---

Remember that all Listia rules apply.

Where did you find this prize?

the real question is where did I find one to replace this one. hard to find it looking like this, let alone even nicer.

Mark: This is a beautiful coin, and in fact, the first time I have ever seen a silver, capped bust, one-half dollar; and I feel sure they are quite rare!! I'm watching very closely to see if my credits will take it. I really hope so, but if not, then so be it. Good luck on your very unique auction!! Jim

they are somewhat rare, not rare enough that I could not upgrade this coin in my collection to be allowed to list this one though. I have sat on this for a couple of months trying to decide whether or not to list it, for like I stated, even at the lowest grade that some may give it, it is the most expensive coin that I have offered up here.
I wish you luck in gathering the credits for this and then in winning

I think this is probably the best condition I've seen on one really nice

thank you for that... I am guessing that all of the comments made that try to make this coin seem worse than it is are being made for possibly 2 reasons.
1: talk everyone else into thinking it is not worth much and then get it to go for less when they end up bidding at the end
2: people are looking at what little is wrong with it instead of what much more is right about it
If I thought that this would not go for a decent amount, I either would not have listed it at all, and I started this off at 499, or else I would have listed it with a GIN only to get what I think it is worth.
so, I again thank you for your comment and know that there are plenty who do know what it could be worth and will bid on it appropriately. good luck if you do.

Amazing coin Mark, thanks for giving us little collectors a chance. You always have great auctions.

thank you, and I hope that you continue to watch and bid on my auctions. I am not sure what would constitute a little or large collector other than someone who collects coins as a means to earn a living or someone who does so as a hobby. this, for me, is definetly a hobby and I do not mind passing along deals that I have come across to someone else who also enjoys their hobby.

thank you very much, and a happy new year to you as well.
I tend to agree, there is not much more frustrating than to find a good auction with a lot of comments that are hidden and you are left to try and decide what might have been said that caused someone to hide them. I usually will not hide any comment that anyone makes, for they are entitled to their own opinion. I have hid comments before on an auction but usually because it was some kid trying to be cute and playing games and I have not had to puit up with them again since.

This is going to be a 5,000,000 credit or more type of auction isnt it. To rich for my blood but the coin is beautiful i have to say. I just started collecting coins and silver and would love to have this.

I would not talk anyone out of bidding that high for it, but if I had that amount of credits sitting around, they would be waiting for something like this to show up and to spend them on.

Dude i just looked this coin up and saw what it could be worth and all i have to say is....why did you post this? Do you think you can even get close to what its worth on here. Also i wanted to say is thank you for posting this. I thought you were crazy for posting this. Now i think youre just generous.

I know exactly what it is worth, and I see that you are not new to Listia, but very likely that you are new to my auctions.
I only list what I have replaced with a better grade of coin, and at the moment I do not have a whole lot listed similar to what I usually do while I wait for this one to end. that really has allowed for me to clear out a lot of other coins that usually get put together in a package and sold elsewhere, just for its silver content or else for someone starting out a collection with something better than "hole fillers".
this one could have been put up on Ebay (not my favorite place) or a couple of other sites that I know of, but I have been limiting 90% of the coins that I do list to Listia. most of the bidders here know what an item is worth, and probably because of them looking it up as you did, but that also do bid accordingly or I never would have listed it here in the first place.
I would love for someone to win this coin that will have it sent out to be graded, and get back to me with the news of it coming back anywhere between EF to an MS60 and that is what you are thinking... but if it does, it will also have the word "DETAILS" on the slab because of the rim dings on the reverse.
this is getting too long for the comments section, so thank you for your interest and comments.

Bidding hasnt moved for days this is stressing me out. I thought bidding would be well into the millions. I will be disappointed if the bidding doesnt get to atleast 3,500,000. I wasted thousands of credits buying ***** i really didnt want i wish i didnt because i would have enough to bid and possibly win this.

I see that you have had your own listings here in Listia so you should know that on the last day, and then in the last hour, but even more during the last couple of minutes, the bidding is usually at its highest amount. since only a couple of people have been bidding lately, that very well could not be the case this time and this may go for under a million credits. no way of knowing until it is all over.
I have bought credits once before to get something that I really wanted, but that also was back when Listia had a different policy when buying credits, and if you bought them and added them to an auction that you did not win, they would allow you to return them and get a refund. it appears that they do not have that policy any longer, so buying credits for an auction is something a little riskier. I would love to see this auction see 3.5 million in credits... who wouldnt? but I would not ask you to, or suggest that you should buy credits to do so. if this auction does not do so well, you will not see anything like it again though. I see that Listia has set up for a new badge for a 5 million club, so apparently they know that people have those kind of credits on hand but I have never seen an auction go for that kind of amount.
I guess that what i want to say most is... if you do decide to bid, I wish you luck. if not, thank you for your interest and your input into the discussion that has been ongoing.

WOW! Amazing coin. I used to collect coins almost religiously until we had a house fire and we had to move to a hotel. The cleaning crew stole almost all of my collection and I just never got back into it. This looks fantastic though :).

Dec 23rd, 2015 at 11:22:01 PM PST by

:) You have even less chance of being blocked just because you are one of the few that actually read the description. so, NO, and thank you for that.
I have not had to block anyone for any comment made. I know that a lot of people like to block comments that try to bring down a coin, but as I have told others, their opinion is their own right and even though I disagree with a few I do not think it is cause to be blocked.
there have been a few that sent messages in the first week offering GIN amounts that actually had me laughing so hard that I was almost in tears. though. :)

Hi, nice coin. just one question. do you know if the coin has been cleaned. thanks and good luck with auction
Dec 23rd, 2015 at 10:04:31 AM PST by
Original
this coin does not show any of the signs that are evident if it was to be cleaned, in fact, being silver if it were to have been cleaned it would look quite a bit different than it does.
maybe I should have just gone with: NO it has not been cleaned :)

Dec 23rd, 2015 at 8:15:48 AM PST by

I would not call them idiots, they are entitled to their opinion and if what they see is not worthy of a high bid, then that is just a few less that will bid on it. I make sure to give everyone a really good scan of the coin so that they can see what they see and then go from there.
