Description

The listing, Victorian Tatted Choker: Iridescent for the Holidays! has ended.

This is a handmade, tatted choker I just recently completed.

It is made with 100% Turkish "sparkle/silk" thread using a needle.

It measures 18 3/4" long and is 1/2" narrow at the longest point(s).

You can wear this tied in the front or the back.

It's hard to describe the overall color: I would have to say it reminds me of rainbow "glints" off of snow in the sunlight.

You can use a brooch as well as a closure or focal point as well as attach a pendant piece easily.

Beautiful for the holidays or wedding!

History of Needle Tatting: Needle tatting originated in the early twentieth century, but did not become popular until much later. A tatting needle is a long, blunt needle that does not change thickness at the eye of the needle. The needle used must match the thickness of the thread chosen for the project. Rather than winding the shuttle, the needle is threaded with a length of thread. To work with a second color, a second needle is used.Although needle tatting looks similar to shuttle tatting, it differs in structure and is slightly thicker and looser because both the needle and the thread must pass through the stitches. My Grandmother use to tat, but I never learned it. She did try to teach me crochet and I do some basic stitches. All your auctions are for beautiful pieces. Do you do tatting onto materials like collars or table scarves?

Oh, yes, I remember those collars, pillowcases and tablecloths with tatted edges. I haven't done any of those (yet) because I've simply had many more requests for 'non-metal' jewelry through the years.

I started with polymer clay but I love the needle arts so much that I branched out to find old crochet, and then tatted, edging patterns that could be used for chokers and bracelets. I may or may not incorporate my own clayed beads into these pieces down the road.

Right now I've switched gears and am working on a crocheted sweater for a Christmas gift. HOWEVER, I do keep up with special requests for tatted chokers along the way as well :-)

Thanks for dropping by and for your compliments!
