Will the oyster die when the pearl is retrieved? Is the pearl going to get bigger if you wait longer?

Unfortunately, an oyster cannot survive once the shell is opened...
Also, once the Oyster smooths over the foreign object and the irritation stops, the Oyster stops coating the foreign object... This usually takes between 3-5 years...
The bigger the Oyster and foreign object; the bigger the Pearl...
