This is a beautiful lab created, Cushion Cut Emerald, mounted in a 925 silver 6 pronged setting, and finished off with a dainty chain that is also 925 silver. (Both are stamped as such)
The stone is a very dark emerald green that is aprox. 9mm x 9mm (about 1/2" x 1/2"), and because it was created in a controlled lab enviroment, shows no flaws.
Precious stones that are man made, are pretty much made the same way nature makes them.
As in nature, very high temperatures and intense pressure are used to create the gemstones.
The main difference between a man made gem and one created naturlly is that the lab created stones lack the flaws, or inclusions, found in a natural gem. Even the most knowledgable gemologist uses the tiny ridges that are created during the cutting and polishing process to authenticate the gemstone as being natural or man made. This isn't visible to the naked eye and also requires the gemologist to study the refractive indexes found in all precious gemstones, in order to finalze that determination.
Molecularly, man made gemstones are identical to those found in nature, but when natural gems are cut and polished, ridges are created. It's these analyzed ridges, that enables the gemologist to finalize his determination and to validate the gem as being naturally real or man made.
I personally favor man made stones over natural ones, because man made ones don't have the flaws found in natural ones. This enables the stone to refract the light more perfectly, giving the stone more fire and sparkle. The only draw back, I've found in this, is that some gems come off as being 'too' perfect, which can lead one to see them as fakes.
So...bid your heart out on this Emerald necklace and when the auction ends and this piece is won, I know you'll wear it with pride. It's by far, one of the prettiest green 'rocks' I've ever seen.
