"The first forty-six pages of the book provide a rambling account of Marson's own encounters with the supernatural. The remainder collects eighteen stories by this clergyman, some rather brief. Four of the stories set up a frame narrative for tales told in a cozy club setting by Police Superintendent Maclane, a Scot with a respect for the uncanny -- thus a quasi-psychic detective -- about cases he has worked on that involved the supernatural. A fifth involves Maclane but without the club setting. A solid collection of traditional supernatural tales that has been curiously overlooked by collectors. All but two or three of the stories make use of the supernatural.
