I think part of your problem is that it takes a special high power rechargeable battery. It looks like you're using Alkaline batteries.

the batterys dont effect how it is used i have one
when i first got my mac i had a little trouble getting mine figured out there is a button to the top right you push it a green light flickers and it is ready
