Description
The listing, Replica $1,000 1890 Treasury Note has ended.
This is a REPLICA of an 1890 $1,000 U.S. Treasury note. It appears to be of gold foil (I don't think it's real gold or even gold leaf.) It is sealed in a plastic bubble pack and is mounted on a display information card. The front features a Treasury seal and portrait of Civil War General George Meade who commanded Federal troops at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. The note measures 4-3/4" x 2-1/16" and the card is 6" x 9".
In December 2006 the actual note sold for a world record price of $2.555 million. Only two such notes are know to exist with a red U.S.Treasury Seal. A small number are also known with a brown seal. The one sold in 2006 is the only one in private hands. The other is in the museum at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
