Pokemon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition was a follow-up to the Pokemon Red and Blue Versions. It modified character designs and Pokemon designs to add continuity to the anime, and allowed the player to start with Pikachu instead of the normal three starters (Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur). It made up for this by allowing players to obtain all three original starters in certain events throughout the game.

This had the same multiplayer features as the previous two: Battling and Trading. However, this version included a special bonus: When connecting the game to Pokemon Stadium (N64), you can teach Pikachu the move “Pikachu Surf”, allowing the player to play the special Pikachu’s Beach Minigame.
