I haven't read the book, but I've seen the movie. The movie was awesome. A couple in a long distance relationship I think and they were writing letters to eachother. I think he was in the armed forces. Not sure on all the details but I loved the movie.

Nicholas Sparks is also the author of "The Notebook" which is also a great book, if that gives you any idea. not sure if you've read it or not...
