I don't own an iPhone, so I'm not sure exactly how it works, BUT, from what I read on the amazon page, it sounds like it acts and looks like a case for the iphone, but it has a back up batter IN the case, so it kicks in when your battery is depleted.

There are complete instructions in the box, however.

I used to have one of these for my iPhone 3GS. They are outstanding. It's basically a case with an extra battery built in. Want and watching! ;)
