The listing, STUNNING VINTAGE 45" SILK FABRIC ~ 3 YARDS ~ BEAUTIFUL FLORAL has ended.

Thanks for visiting us at THE CHARMED COTTAGE! Here is a beautiful piece of vintage fabric! I believe this is silk, but am not 100% certain; even if it isn't silk it is still quite stunning and a very nice quality fabric! It features a great floral design done in various shades of blue and pink set against a deep mustard yellow background. For additional accents, there are gold threads interwoven into the fabric for a stripe effect. This fabric drapes very well; it may be from India or a similar country where it would be used for flowing garments or scarves. This fabric is 45" wide x 3 yards in length. It's in excellent condition.

If you want yo know for certain whether it is silk or not you can do a test.
Take a pair of tweezers and a tiny corner of selvage, just,an inch will do. Take a match and do this over the sink or a metal pan.
Hold the fabric over the flame; silk will curl away from the flame.
It burns very slow, smells like burnt hair. It will not flare up but rather put itself out. There is so smoke..
If it is a blend it will not be easy to tell. If you have a keen sense of smell you would be able to still smell the 'hair' but it would have the fiber reaction most notable to the blend.

Hi ~ thanks so much for offering this advice! I tried this, but am very confused! It extinguished itself, and there really wasn't any smoke, but I don't know what burnt hair smells like, so I couldn't really tell. It's not a smooth fabric, it has irregular fibers, with gold woven throughout the fabric. It reminds me of a fabric a woman from India would use for her clothing and veils. Wish I could be of more help. If someone chooses to bid, please bid thinking it is a polyester, and if you get a silk, great!!

Is the fabric smooth or does it have irregular fibers, like a duponi.silk?

It extinguished itself. There was no smoke. Irregular fibers.
99.9% it is duponi.silk
Thank you
Polyester would flare up, smoke and not extinguish itself .
It is definitely silk as even wool has a pungent odor. All man made have smoke and flare up.
So, I would say it is definitely silk.
That is my opinion.
Thanks for doing the test
