Description

The listing, PCGS ERROR ? PCGS-sample New York Quarter 2001-P NY25C has ended.

THIS IS GOING TO HAVE EVERYONE WONDERING WHAT PCGS DID TO HAVE THIS SLAB SHOW UP. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING VERY UNIQUE AND SOME SORT OF ERROR ON PCGS's FAULT, YOU NEED TO CHECK THIS AUCTION OUT.

THIS IS "ONE-OF-A-KIND" FOR SURE !

I thought about just listing it and letting everyone figure out what is wrong with it, but there are too many who do not read the descriptions so it will not matter one way or the other.
I already know the comments section is going to fill fast on this one no matter what for this is such an "ODDITY" and a "TRUE CONVERSATION PIECE".
For those of you that do read this section, your best bet is to look up the registration number on PCGS's website. This is a sealed slab !
I am going to let this one run for 9 days for everyone to have a chance to check it out and to get in on the conversation that it is easily going to start.

The scans above are of the actual item that you will receive, and are provided for you to determine the condition and/or grade of it.
I never clean or alter coins in any way, and do my best to allow you to see every detail and/or every blemish that the coins I list have, so that you can make an informed and confident bid.
I am no longer accepting GIN offers for my auctions, everyone now gets a shot at bidding.
The winner will receive this via FREE SHIPPING W/Tracking.
Remember that all Listia rules apply.

Now that the holidays are over with, the Post Office has been doing a better job of getting packges to their destination in a timely manner. Just let it be known that all items will be sent the next available day after end of auction, for I actually go to the Post Office and pay for the Package and Tracking in person so that you will receive your item as soon as possible. I also check all Tracking numbers daily and will keep you informed of anything that is out of the ordinary.
Thank you for your interest in my auctions and stopping by to view them.

It's the same way with the New York D version of the sample. Has the same last numbers in the cert after the /. What would make it even more interesting, if they added the bar code so one can scan it with the PCGS CoinFacts App, and it comes up with the Morgan.

that would have me thinking that my smartphone is not so smart after all. it is bad enough that putting it in manually i thought that I was stupid enough to put in a typo 2 times.

this is an older pcgs holder which might be why the number may have been assigned to another coin as the holders are only guaranteed for 10 years I believe

problem with that is that this holder is sealed and shows no sign of tampering whatsoever. it just baffles me that PCGS would select a registration number off the top of their heads and not check that it is already assigned? like I stated, it is some kind of true error on PCGS but no matter what, a real conversation starter for a limited crowd. :)

Shows that it isn't a sample (as samples tend to have a not found when you look up cert), but a $1 coin when you search the cert. #.

Anyway, the slab you have was first issued in 2005 at the Long Beach Expo.

I would contact PCGS it could be counterfeit - I'm not a PCGS member, but on the NGC web site it tells you to contact NGC if you verify a coin and the coin does not match the image and description of the coin that comes up when you type the number. That would be better than getting yourself in trouble somehow - but honestly, are there any errors on the coin besides the mislabled or misverified holder? I wonder why someone would counterfeit a quarter. makes no sense to me.

PCGS gives out coins like this at most of their events and they are really not graded as you see on this one. they are a couple of things...
1) a gift from them for attending their events (wont go into all that the events are)
2) a sample of what they do and what you can receive from them, without actually giving you a graded coin for their graded coins are from customers and they do not buy and grade to be sold.
