Description

The listing, Antique Victorian/Edwardian Mourning Brooch Photo of a Young Boy with Metal Frame has ended.

Just so you know: NO GIN and low opening bid--have fun with this one!!!

Here I present to you another mourning brooch from the later Victorian or Edwardian periods. This young man is a bit older than some I have listed in the past. He looks to be 4 or 5. Once again, I am filled with sadness of the loss to the boy's family, and the anguish they must have felt at his passing. So many children never got to grow up because child mortality was so high. People suffered through so much loss, and still managed to move forward in society, advancing the causes of humankind.

This pin is in great condition for a wearable item this old. The photo has no flaws, it looks perfect. There is some minor tarnish on the twisty frame. The pin in back is bent, but I think it's meant to be that way so the pin doesn't stick out beyond the "C" clasp.

Shipping is FREE to bidders with Listia-verified addresses. Please ask questions or send comments and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I have a smoke-free home with two silly pups.

Thanks for viewing my auction!

I got 2 from you, and love them. The story is sad.

Definitely sad...but good in a way, too. Before photography, and before it became affordable for most folks, people didn't have an image of their loved ones to look at and remember. People who were able to have pictures taken of their loved ones could at least have those photos to carry with them always. Perhaps one that was made into a mourning brooch. It was sad; the mortality rate was high. But also comforting to hold onto that precious image.
