Description

The listing, Attention: HISTORY BUFFS, WHAT ARE THESE MILITARY MEDALS, OPA RED POINT, + ENAMELED metal TASSELS? has ended.

Hi! For once, I have no idea what I have here!
The only thing I know a little of what it is is the
OPA red token. These were given out to servicemen in the military for rations, like bread or flour around the1940's. This is a cool little piece of history. A soldier in world war 2 times used this very token to get food!
The other two items are a true mystery to me. I have owned them since I was 17, so over 10 years. I used to spend a lot of time in local antique shops as a kid instead of shopping at the mall, like a normal girl! ;)
Something about these fascinated me. I have tried to find out more information about these medals and cobalt- enameled metal tassels. The medals have what looks like a headless greek or roman statue on each, with what may be a snake coming up from the feet? They are silver colored, but are not sterling. If you know what these are, I would love to know! Please comment, I have been wondering for over a decade! And, I hope they can find a more appropriate home in your collection. They look out of place in my jewelry box next to the rings and necklaces!
Thank you for your interest.

The figure on the charms appear to be based on Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. There is a statue (headless, too) called Winged Victory of Samothrace. New Zealand soldiers who fought in Greece in WWII got a large round service medal with this figure on the front, mounted with blue and gray ribbon. Wonder if these might be charms that a mother or wife would wear? Fanned and watching, by the way!

Oh, my goodness! I LOVE your work!!! :D Congratulations on your gallery show!!!!
That is so exciting!!! You deserve it- your upcycled jewelry is unique in that it's done REALLY well, very creative, but it looks right- it doesn't look obvious that the components have had a past life- you integrate everything in a way that is complimentary to each part, so the end result is balanced and looks stunning... GREAT WORK!!!
