You have to have a WiFi signal to connect to. Either a cable modem from your provider or a nearby signal to connect to. You can't just plug it in and immediately connect to the Internet.

Does this also improve wifi connectivity ? Like make it faster and no interruptions?

I don't think so but I don't really know either. I only used it for a while to connect my old computer to the Internet since it didn't have a modem.
