The power itself is not wrong. It can become dangerous if you use the power in the wrong way.
In any event, if you only have good intentions (and know what you are doing, how to protect yourself if needed, etc), then you do not have to worry about "dangerous" magick. All magick can be dangerous if put in the wrong hands or used incorrectly.
If you still feel uncertain as to whether or not an object is dangerous, then cleanse the object so that it is a blank slate, ready to be used in the way that you feel you need to use it. I personally cleanse every item I get that I use for the Craft because it is just a great habit to get into and you know that the object now only has your energy in it.
