Sony Vaio personal computer is not in working condition it belongs to my daughter and she was told that all it needed was a hard drive

Who told your daughter it only needed a hard drive? Was it a professional scammer (example: Geek Squad), or did you take it to someone who specifically fixes computers, like a local computer repair shop? Also, I see you have the charger, can you take a picture and show what happens when you plug it up and power the laptop on? Thanks!
