The extension cable can be extended up to about 4 feet and is easily retracted. In the picture you are seeing it in its fully retracted form. It connects headphones to an input jack or any standard audio output to an audio input. It says half working because when you do use it as an extension for some reason it only grabs the left or right output, not both at the same time. It makes listening to audio frustrating but sometimes if you mess around with it it can fully work. If you want to give fixing it a whirl be my guest.
