Rip Off ALERT ... if you are bidding on a high-value item, like an ipod or other electronic or even jewelry, particularly with a NEW seller, try this ... google the title and/or text of the item. A moderator just informed me that an Ipod I was bidding on was copied exactly from a craigslist ad ... photos, title and text.

The seller, drewjohn32 (block him now) was answering a million comments, had a sad story (like so many Listia members), and I thought for SURE he was legit.

The point is, YOU can do the same thing as the moderators ... google search for an item that seems too good to be true, and if it is a scam I think it's likely you'll find the same item being sold on ebay, craigslist, or possibly another web site--copied, unbeknownst to the REAL seller of the item, and posted on Listia. I think this is a GREAT tip!

what people won't do. This is a wonderful site and then someone always has to do something to make you think twice. Thank you for posting this. Everyone should be aware.....One day i'm going to win some of your beautiful beads:)

Thank you. I have looked under the search bar and can not find it. I think they should put some type of bulletin board where we can put upcoming events...special auctions....etc...we interact this way, but it sure would be nice to to chat with some:). In this case with the scamming Listia needs to come up with policing the site better. I realize this will cause some problems at first and yes we don't like change. Personally I love this site. I would hate to lose it because of something like this. We are all grown up maybe some need to remember that. I see people begging people to lower there numbers of days etc. I understand we are doing this to make money, but to help other people less fortunate, however I think there is a time and place to barter not here...people can see everything we say........need some type of chat....bulletin board.... I actually have things I would just rather give away, but this is the closet I can come to that. If I could I would believe everyone and help everyone, but I am just one and I have a hard time, but there's always someone worse off than us. If you can find out where that story disappeared to I would be interested in reading it. Have a good week:)

I saw what you were talking about. Did you know this person? How rude? Well all I can say is after all those raving reviews anyone that would give any of that garbage a second thought is not very bright, but it hurts you.....I know. The first auction I won on here was a very beautiful picture. Seller sent paypal acct. Sent money promptly and then tried to reach her for about 2 weeks and and never heard from her. Contacted Listia and still haven't heard. She stated she had no record of receiving any funds. Here after some research, she sent me the wrong paypal address and never contacted me. What makes me think about it, is I just got the funds returned to my acct. today. Had that been me I would have contacted the seller and found out what was going on. She ripped me up oneside and down the other. Very rude. She said she was keeping my points and there was nothing I could do about it. It was not the points for they are only points. I can spend them no where but here however to me that was fraud. She made me think she really didn't have the item. Oh, well I am not going to let her stop me from helping my fellow Lisitians. I try to be the best I can be and will go out of my way to help those less fortunate. Some just never learn:)
