Holiday was born in Baltimore, Maryland, 1915, died 1959. Her picture as one of the "American Legends" was on the postage stamp in 1993. The music on this CD was Digitally Restored. This CD was produced/released 1996.

She was called "Lady Day" and her autobiography was "Lady Sings the Blues," detailing her painful childhood. When she died at 44, she had suffered illness and drug abuse. But her voice "was still one of a kind..."

She recorded with orchestras led by Benny Goodman, Teddy Wilson, Lester Young, Artie Shaw, and Louis Armstrong.
