I'm giving away 50 mammoth sunflower seeds gathered from my garden last fall. These got 10 + feet tall. Me and my daughter baked some of the seeds to eat. They were pretty good.

Annual, or, perennial? Do they produce edible roots?

Edible roots? I don't know anything about eating the roots. You can bake the seeds and eat them. Me and my daughter did last year. And they are an annual. You Have To Plant them every year. But you can just collect the seeds in the fall.
