These are shipped / stored Flat. Soak the loofah for 5-10 minutes in warm or hot water and they will expand in circumference like the second picture.
When using for the first time, you might see a very small amount of the natural dried seeds floating in the water. This is normal due to the nature of this product when first used so we suggest to soak them in a bucket, or just in the tub BEFORE using them in the bath with you.
