Description

The listing, South American Phone Token? has ended.

In the past, before the phone cards were in use, the phone tokens were very popular and the people used it as a mode of exchange for speaking in the public phones. However, such phone tokens are still in use in the Turkey and Hungary but earlier it was used widely in Japan, Israel, South America and Europe.

These tokens first commenced in Chicago and there are some public telephones in this place where the tokens are only accepted even now. Till 1944 in the United States, these phone tokens were used legally and later they were ruled out and were also mollified to make it as shell casings. The very first phone tokens were known to be developed by the PAN Telephone Company in the city of Saint Louis in Missouri in the year 1885. The procedure to use the phone was to give the token to the attendant instead of dropping it in the phone box.
