The listing, AUSTRAILIAN 20 CENT COIN 1975 has ended.
This is a beautiful coin!!
The obverse of this coin contains an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, and the reverse depicts a duck-billed platypus swimming in the water. The platypus is a native Australian mammal that is one of two mammals in the world that lays eggs, the other being the echidna, which is also found in Australia.
Australia adopted the decimal monetary system in 1966 to replace the British system of pounds, shillings, and pence. Most of the coins were and still are minted at the mint in Canberra. In 1981, however, there was a long workers' strike at the mint in Canberra, and the government had coins minted in British Wales and Canada during the strike.
