Sugar cane is a tall grass which looks rather like a bamboo cane. This forms grows 12 to 30 tall! The thicker stemmed forms are commonly known as 'thick' or 'noble' canes because of their tall form.Stem (cane) - robust and often brightly coloured. Sugar cane is cultivated for its stem. The main product is the sugar contained within it.

Saccharum plants are perennials, and some are capable of survival in cooler climents. Notably, these flowering plants grow very tall and produces very strong stalks.

Sugar cane is a tropical grass that can grow to be between 12 and 30 feet tall!!! It is native to the warm tropical regions of Asia, but is now grown in over 110 different countries.

You can also grow this as a houseplant as you can see in one of the pictures or as a patio plant, so this can be grown in zones 3 to 9.

This plant outside can be grown in a very small area as one of the pics show you.

It grows back year after year!!

I wonder if your seeds will grow their canes in coastal pacific northwest? never gets much over 72 and rarely freezes, if at all.
