Questions & Comments
Wow. How unique to see this design! I have seen the folk art , still life and floral but never the rosemailing :-) Thanks for sharing. How is the condition inside? Is there any damage, holes, rust or dents? It is rare to see this. I see the wastebaskets, trays, etc but to actually see this is such a treat
Good morning.Good to hear from you againThere are no rust ,holes etc.Interior rim is crimped so that the top will fit p aint shows some slight wear but otherwise a super example of vintage tole work..You seldom see rosemaling today because it is a very painstaking technique. The brush strokes are done in a very precise way,a lot has to do with the amount of pressure placed on the brush while still keeping a fluidity of motion.I've mastered a variety of tole and decorative strokes but rosmailing was almost the end of me and so I can't claim to be able to do anything but the most simple basic strokes. So I was thrilled when I found this,it's the kind of thing you only see in books on the subject. Thanks for your input, always a pleasure to hear your comments.go safely sheila
I did some rosemailing embroider a couple years ago on a dress for grandaughter. Very detailed. I studied the artwork in college. There are a few artists who did book illustrations that intrigued me.
I think i still have some workbooks around here somewhere.Jo Sonja did a great deal to advance the art and I always admired her mix of old Germanic themed pieces that were replete with a ton of rosemailing work.I'd give my right arm to go to Sweden one day and see those examples firsthand :D
