Lindera species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including The Engrailed.
The young leaves make a very pleasant tea and the berries have been used by pioneers for a spice used much like allspice in recipes. I personally have used it as a spice and a tea and have found nothing better either domesticated nor wild. It is delicious.
