The listing, Amazing Stories August 1928: First Appearance of Buck Rogers!! has ended.
READ LISTING CAREFULLY!!
Up for bid is an original copy of the August 1928 issue of Amazing Stories magazine, most famous for the story 'Armageddon - 2419', the very first appearance of iconic character Anthony 'Buck' Rogers.
PROVENANCE AND CONDITION
The magazine belonged to my great uncle, Harry Henry Davis, and passed from him to my father on his death. In the 1980s, as my interest in science fiction and comics became apparent, my father passed the magazine on to me. I sealed the magazine in mylar and stored it with my comics.
Earlier this year, I learned that the issue in my possession was the "Buck Rogers' issue. Sadly, I broke out the magazine, I discovered that it had been the victim of termites at some point (most likely when stored in an old house I lived in in the late 1990s - surprisingly, they hadn't touched the unsealed comics in the box).
Beyond typical aging (yellowing pages, fading cover and colors, some scuffs and staining on the cover), there is the following damage: a shallow termite bore runs halfway along the bottom edge and 1/4 way up the right edge. The termite boring affects most pages in the border, and enters the text from pages 414-433 (images 5 and 6 show the bores at their deepest). Unfortunately, 'Armageddon - 2419' runs from pages 422-450.
Actual page color best indicated by images with white showing behind the magazine - the paper the magazine lays on provided the basis for color balance.
