If the signature is blue he is from 1985. the 1978 and 1982 dates are copyright dates. 1978 is Xavier Roberts registration date of copyright for the original soft dolls. The 1982 is when he changed the name from little people to cabbage patch kids when Xavier's company, Original Appalachian Artworks, began to license a smaller version of the hand made creations to a toy manufacturer named Coleco.

The signature is blue. The tag on his body says 1978 1982. Mtg Coleco industries. Sorry, didn't undress him before. I just looked on the back of his head, which was hard to read.
