I'm just saying that there is black opal, and Pruvian blue opal, both look like this. Fire opals are from Mexico as the only natural deposit that I know of right off; black opals being from Shri Lanka and Australia, and Pruvan blue being from Peru generally. I did look through and I find that none of my stone suppliers carry "blue fire opals" and one even suggested that it make just be a marketing name for synthetic black opal. The way to test for synthetics in this case is take a small needle and heat it very hot; when you touch the needle to the suspect gem stone, where it is not likely to be noticed obviously, a synthetic opal will smell like plastic; as that is exactly what it is, translucent to transparent plastic with inclusions. Now, I am trying to help; but I guess you would rather not from some one that designs, manufactures, and sells hand made and custom jewelry of all diffrent types, and using a large spectrum of stones, metals, and other materials. (yes, I did make the bat wings on my hat in that picture.)

I didn't mean to sound hateful! sorry! all i know is when i pulled it up on google (blue fire opal) this is what it showed!it just caught me yhe wrong way this morning & I'm sorry for that! it may be one of the other opals you spoke of,i was just going by what i bought it as! thanks again 4 the info & again sorry!! :)

fire opal is red, and mostly transparent. this looks like black opal or synthetic opal to me. I have been dealing with jewelry for a while now; sorry.

all I know is that's what the jeweler I got this from called it!! I do know if u move it in the light the color will change! blue,green ; this is the first time I've dealt with opal & all I know is what they said it was!! what ever it is,it is still STUNNING!!!!
